EE020006 Endpoint Encryption Disk information not found (when booting from DETech using the Standalone USB version)

Environment
McAfee Drive Encryption (DE) 7.x

For details of DE supported environments, see KB79422.

Problem

If you boot a system that is encrypted from a USB DETech standalone recovery media, it fails to authenticate.

If you click any of the authentication options or if you try to do an Emergency Boot, the system shows one of the following errors:
  • Error: Current MBR contains invalid McAfee Endpoint Encryption Disk information
  • Error: 0xEE020006 Endpoint Encryption Disk information not found

Cause

If the system boots from a USB drive, the BIOS sets the USB disk to be Disk 0.

The DETech User Guide states the following:

When using the bootable USB memory stick, you have to explicitly perform the Set Boot Disk operation.

Solution

Use the DETech Set Boot Disk option to set the correct boot drive so that DETech looks at the hard disk instead of the USB drive.

For more information about Set Boot Disk, see the respective DETech User Guide.
