Data Loss Prevention Endpoint best practice for upgrading or updating

Environment

Data Loss Prevention Endpoint (DLP Endpoint) 11.1.x, 11.0.x, 10.0.x

Summary

DLP Endpoint periodically releases version updates that contain new features or fixes for known issues. Preparing for an upgrade or update in your environment is critical to the success of installing the latest update or version.

McAfee recommends that you back up your DLP policies and save them in a safe location before you install the latest update or version.

To back up your DLP policies, perform the following steps.
  1. In ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), select DLP Settings.
  2. Click the Backup & Restore tab.
  3. Click the Backup to file button and choose the location to save the DLP policy backup file.
If you want to restore your old policies, perform the following steps
  1. In ePO, select DLP Settings.
  2. Click the Backup & Restore tab.
  3. Click the Restore from file button, choose the DLP policy backup file that you want to restore and click Open.
  4. On the screen, all details of the backup file are displayed. If that matches your requirements, click Restore.
It is highly recommended that you also back up the ePO database because it also contains critical data for Data Loss Prevention. To back up the ePO database, see KB66616
